About the introduction of safety standards

What is PSE

PSE, specified electrical products, are governed by the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. Also, do you know that there are two compliance standards (technical standards) in the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law?

"Appended Table 8, 1,2 (102) and appended table 10 chapter 5" is an adaptation standard for the AC adapter alone as a DC power supply. To the contrary, [Appendix 12 (J6xxxx)] is required compliance standard number (J - 6xxxx - x)according to the purpose of the equipment used by the customer. The Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law requires appropriate measures to be taken according to the intended use and purpose of use.

What is a CB test report?

A CB test report is a test compliance report (certificate) that clears the technical standards specified in the CB scheme (IEC Electrical Safety Standards Conformance Test System).

Generally, an AC adapter often acquires a CB test report of IEC 60950 (information communication device) or IEC 60065 (AV device), but recently, due to diversification of applications and purposes of recent equipment, IEC 61558 (general consumer electronics), IEC 61347 (LED), IEC 60601 (medical), etc., are required.

In developing overseas markets, instead of the products being introduced having to acquire the safety standards of each country, items can be evaluated by the IEC system (international technical standards) and will be exempted from local regulatory and technical tests by utilizing a CB test report. Thus, the evaluation by technical standards in the destination country may be simplified. Also, if the customer needs to use the safety evaluation regulations for safety assessment on the set of equipment used, technical tests are exempted because the included AC adapter has already received the evaluation on its power supply.

Matters that are necessary other than safety standards

In addition to adapter safety standards, there are safety standards and regulations related to applications that need to be applied.

Although we will introduce the issue in part here, in recent years product adaptation related to energy regulation (power efficiency regulation) is necessary in some cases. If you are considering product development for overseas markets, it goes without saying that you should acquire the correct safety standards.

Actually, overseas, the number of countries that are legally introducing energy saving regulations is increasing. These are applied to AC adapters and other specified equipment.

For example, in North America, there are many things that are thought to be safe if there is a UL mark of safety standards, but in fact this is not the case.

There are DOE regulations in the USA, NRCAN regulations in Canada, and please note that these regulations require adaptation measures separately from safety standards.
